KAS values the significant part that the school plays in building future generations of young Australians who respect both themselves and others, and are equipped to make significant contributions to the life of both their local and broader communities.
Consistent with the Melbourne Declaration on Educational Goals for Young Australians , KAS seeks to achieve this contribution to the Australian community through a school program based on two key foundational principles: 1) Spiritual Nurture and 2) Educational Excellence.
The Melbourne Declaration on Educational Goals for Young Australians articulates nationally consistent future directions and aspirations for Australian schooling agreed by all Australian Education Ministers.
The Melbourne Declaration has two overarching goals for schooling in Australia:
Goal 1 Australian schooling promotes equity and excellence
Goal 2 All young Australians become successful learners, confident and creative individuals, and active and informed citizens
Consistent with these overarching goals, KAS is a learning community where children and young people, regardless of their country of origin, cultural, ethnic, or religious heritage, gender and/or their socio-economic background are valued and respected.
KAS believes that all children enrolled in the school have the right to be part of a learning community where the attainment of these goals is possible, and that a precondition for children to achieve these goals is for the school to create and maintain a context where all children feel safe and respected.
The school’s policies and guidelines relating to child protection reflect the school’s commitment to ensuring that all KAS students are adequately cared for and, where appropriate, that instances of risk of harm are managed in an ethically and legally appropriate manner and, where required, reported to authorised agencies responsible for the investigation of such matters.
The school’s Staff and Volunteer Codes of Conduct, and the Student Management Guidelines are a further reflection of the school’s commitment to maintaining a learning environment where respect for the individual and the significance of shared values between the school and its community are further highlighted.
